Our cemeteries in Carthage, Defeated Creek, and Dixon Springs are all state-licensed perpetual-care cemeteries. This means that money has been set aside in order to maintain the final resting place of our loved ones even after this generation is gone. The grounds crew works year-round to keep our cemeteries well groomed and in keeping with the way you would want your own home maintained.
Smith
County Memorial Gardens was Smith County's first
state licensed perpetual care cemetery, incorporating
in 1964. It was expanded in 1980 from its original
three acres to its present twelve acres.
Located at the corner of College Avenue East and Skyline Drive in the City of Carthage, the cemetery has bronze marker sections, granite upright sections and a mausoleum.
The largest of Smith County's perpetual care cemeteries is the twenty plus acre Dixon Springs Cemetery located at twenty five Dixon Springs Circle in the northwest corner of Smith County.
The earliest recorded burials are that of seven confederate soldiers who served in the Confederate Army. Over three thousand interments have taken place in all sections of Dixon Springs Cemetery.
Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens was incorporated as a State of Tennessee perpetual care cemetery in June 1971 and has over one thousand interments since it was begun by the late Willie Kemp in 1935 as a family cemetery.
The six acre cemetery is nestled in the quiet hills of northern Smith County overlooking Cordell Hull Lake and is only two miles for Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Homes.
Because of the location of Cordell Hull Lake and that the Defeated Creek area is fast becoming a retirement Community, residents from several states have selected the peaceful setting of this well maintained property as their families final resting place.
