When the time comes for you to plan a funeral, it helps to work with someone you can trust. This is the foundation we began with in 1904 and is still at the center of every relationship we make, whether you’re planning ahead for your own funeral and Celebration of Life or taking care of someone you love.

We believe you’ll find our facilities to be beautiful, spacious and easy to find. We have two funeral homes in Smith County Tennessee with our primary facility, The Carthage Chapel, located in downtown Carthage on Main Street. Our other funeral home, The Hackett Chapel, is located in Kempville.

Our Carthage Chapel is conveniently located on North Main Street in Carthage only three blocks from the Carthage by-pass and six miles from Exit 258 off I-40.

The building is over 12,000 sq. feet all located on one level and is completely A.D.A. accessible with wheel chairs provided at the facility and four A.D.A. parking spaces.

The entrance may be accessed from the front or the rear of the building and all visitation rooms, chapel, rest rooms and kitchen area flow from a 112 ft. central hallway.

This location has three visitation rooms; the Blue Room which with the adjoining Library can seat 100 guests, the Rose Room which can seat 45 guests and the Gold Room which can also accommodate 40 guests. The Rose Room and the Gold Room can be combined to accommodate a total of 80 seated guests.

Our Chapel area has a family room that can seat forty-five family members, a choir room that seats 20 singers, the main chapel with padded pews can seat 120 and room dividers can be opened to accommodate an additional 100 guests. Our chapel has a folding curtain in the front which divides the family room from the main chapel, so as to allow the family to have private viewings.

The music room has a piano and a karaoke system.

The Chapel, the Blue Room and Rose Room have adjoining rooms for the family to have private gatherings before entering as a family for the first viewing of their loved ones.

In the South we still refer to the food areas as Kitchens. At Carthage, our kitchen area is designed like a restaurant with booths and tables at which 36 people can dine at one time.

The kitchen includes restaurant style coffee machine and microwave oven and as part of the service Sanderson Funeral Home furnishes paper plates, coffee, coffee cups, plastic cutlery and napkins.

The Carthage Chapel has an Arrangements Center located in a separate building, so that families making arrangements do not have to enter the funeral home where many times services are in progress. This is also where pre-arranged funerals are planned and Smith County Monument Co. office with a separate entrance is located.

The Business Office at the Carthage Chapel is conveniently located near the front entrance so that grieving family members are not disturbed by normal office activity.

The Carthage Chapel has parking for 86 vehicles with four A.D.A. spaces.



Hackett Chapel

Our Hackett Chapel is located on Kempville Highway (State Hwy. #85) halfway between Carthage and Gainesboro.

The building is over 7,500 square feet, also one level, and is completely A.D.A. accessible with a wheelchair provided when needed and two A.D.A. parking spaces.

This location has an entrance foyer leading to a 72-foot hallway with all public areas accessible from this L-shaped hall.

The Hackett Chapel has a family room that seats 50, the main chapel with padded pews seats 115 with room for an additional twenty-five folding chairs and the music room can seat 18.

At the Hackett Chapel family members gather in the lobby or music room for private time.

In our kitchen, we have a family dining table which seats 12 family members and another table to seat six. The kitchen includes restaurant style coffee machine and microwave oven and as part of the service Sanderson Funeral Home furnishes paper plates, coffee, coffee cups, plastic cutlery and napkins.

At the Hackett Chapel the arrangements are made in the Business Office away from public areas.

The Business Office is conveniently located near the front entrance so that grieving family members are not disturbed by normal office activity.

The Hackett Chapel has unlimited parking. There are 48 paved spaces with two A.D.A. spaces and the facility sits on ten acres which can be used with unlimited gravel and grass parking areas.

This is a brief overview of our facilities but perhaps you would like to visit and take a tour of our facilities. Please come by during normal office hours which are 8 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday or 8 a.m. until Noon on Saturday. However, our phones are answered 24 hours a day and we would be glad to meet you for a tour by appointment.
